Valve Testing and Fitting FAQs

How often should an in-service relief valve be re-certified?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions in our industry. There is not a “one size fits all” answer to this question. Valve testing varies by application, use, and service environment. Our minimum recommendations for testing your relief valves for continued reliability are as follows:

  • Steam Service: Annually
  • Liquid Service: Annually
  • Air/Gas: Biannually

Keep in mind, a valve installed in a harsh environment should be tested more frequently than a valve in a controlled environment. Testing history can also play a major role in determining the best schedule. Not sure how often your valves should be tested? The engineers at Dante Valve can help determine your valve’s specific testing and re-certification needs.
